It's amazing to think that Saturday's 1-0 victory over Derby County saw goalkeeper Ben Foster make his club debut. He's been with the club for nearly three years, has won an England cap and has been touted as a superb prospect for the future. An injury to Edwin van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak's suspension paved the way for the 24-year-old to play - but Foster is under no illusions.

Foster's United tenure got off to an impressive start as he bagged a clean sheet and made a couple of excellent saves to deny Kenny Miller.

The shot stopper, who turns 25 in April, already has an England cap to his name and joined the club from Stoke City three seasons ago. However, he has spent most of his time out on loan with Watford where he made a name for himself thanks to a string of superb displays.

Fans will have been impressed by Foster's performance at Pride Park - but the 'keeper still expects to spend time out on loan away from Old Trafford before he can really start his battle to win the number one jersey.

"I've only been back from injury two weeks and I was delighted to get the game, but I'm not looking to overtake the other guys," said Foster.

"If I was Edwin van der Sar or Tomasz Kuszczak and I was being kept out of the team I'd be very disappointed. I don't expect to be in the team. I may have to go out on loan for the rest of the season to play some games and then maybe next season it will be a different story."
