Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has been nominated for the FA Cup "player of the fifth round" accolade. The England striker tore Arsenal apart at Old Trafford with a superb attacking display; scoring once in a simply awesome 4-0 win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men. Meanwhile, former United 'keeper Luke Steele is also one of four nominees.

Portsmouth stopper David James and Cardiff’s Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink complete the candidates for the fifth round’s top performer.

James and Steele both produced tremendous goalkeeping displays - the former keeping out a dominant Preston side and the latter pulling off a string of stunning saves as Barnsley dumped Liverpool out of the competition.

Meanwhile, Hasselbaink scored an excellent goal as Cardiff secured safe passage to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Wolves.

Fans can vote for their choice on the F.A's website.

The winning player for each of the eleven rounds nets an engraved trophy, £500 of sport's equipment for a local school and a VIP ticket to the Wembley showpiece final. Rooney will be hoping that he doesn't need a ticket to head to the national stadium this May!
