Reports are linking Manchester United with a move for Hertha Berlin star Gilberto. Gilberto is a useful player who can operate in midfield and at left-back. United are seeking cover for Patrice Evra following Gabriel Heinze's departure and Fergie could well view Brazilian international as a strong addition to his squad.

The German club are trying to tie the midfielder down to a new contract but speculation is intensifying about the player's future.

"I have many offers," he revealed. "Perhaps Berlin will sell me to England or Portugal or I will return to Brazil.

When quizzed on United's reported interest, the 31-year-old said: "I would not like to say anything on it." 

Despite the rumours, Sir Alex Ferguson still insists that the club are not desperate to add any new talent to his squad.

Gilberto is not getting any younger and, despite boasting 22 international caps, has never proved himself at the very highest level. Therefore, we'd have to suggest hat this latest speculation is nothing more than transfer window conjecture.
