Neville starts comeback with second-string strike

Gary Neville started his return from injury with a goalscoring appearance for the reserves. The Manchester United captain was on target as the second-string drew 2-2 against Everton. Sean Evans also scored for the visitors as United pulled off an impressive fightback to snatch a point in the Premier Reserve League North fixture.

Neville has been out of action since March 2007 after breaking an ankle in a Premier League clash with Bolton Wanderers.

He showed some promising signs throughout the first-half and found the net on 21 minutes thanks to a deflected left-footed shot that beat John Ruddy in the Toffees goal. This followed strikes from Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan which had put the Toffees two goals ahead.

However, Neville came off at the half-time break which suggests that he still has someway to go on the recovery trail.

Evans equalised for United in the second-half as they bounced back to claim a point at the Halton Stadium.
