Sir Alex Ferguson is rumoured to be interested in bringing Bolton forward and French international Nicolas Anelka to Old Trafford. The United boss could well offer the Trotters a swap deal that would see Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson heading to the Reebok Stadium.

The Manchester United boss is keen to add some attacking talent to his squad and is said to be lining up a 'swap deal' that could see both Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson heading to the Reebok Stadium.

Sammy Lee, Bolton's newly-appointed manager, is said to be very interested in the swap with Anelka keen to leave Bolton for a bigger club.

French international Anelka netted twelve goals in 39 appearances for the Trotters last season and is rumoured to be very keen to play Champions League football again. However, Barcelona and Newcastle United and apparently both very interested in signing the 28-year-old so United could face some competition for the player's signature.
