Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed the recent form of Alan Smith as United aim to repeat their Treble success of 1999. The versatile England striker has been on amazing form in his last three games and netted a superb strike in the 7-1 Champions League thrashing of AS Roma. Sir Alex Ferguson has singled out the contribution of versatile forward Alan Smith as United look to win major honours on all fronts this season.

The former Leeds star has put together a string of impressive performances since returning from a horrible leg injury; and Fergie feels that Smith’s comeback has been crucial to United’s superb form on all fronts in recent weeks.

Smith was a surprise starter in the recent 7-1 demolition of Roma – only his fourth start of the season – and his goalscoring heroics seem to have provided the catalyst for an amazing run of form that could help United to Treble glory this season.

"He has been absolutely unbelievable," said Ferguson. "His form in the last three games has been outstanding.

"He has brought a freshness and an infectious enthusiasm which is spreading throughout the team."
