Manchester United's youngsters put on an impressive display to come from behind and win their F.A Youth Cup first-leg at Anfield. Sam Hewson netted the winning penalty to give the Red Devils the advantage ahead of next week's second-leg.

Manchester United drew first blood in the F.A Youth Cup final as they came from behind to secure a 2-1 first-leg victory over bitter rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils, backed by an impressive away following, will have the advantage over the Cup's current holders in the re-match next Thursday at Old Trafford.

The hosts took the lead on 16 minutes through Craig Lindfield; but United bounced back after the interval and drew level through a Robbie Threlfall own goal. The equaliser gave United plenty of momentum but their winning goal came from the penalty-spot as Sam Hewson kept his nerve to blast home a penalty-kick in front of the Kop.

United, who were without skipper Craig Cathcart due to his first-team commitments, will be hoping to make it a record tenth Youth Cup triumph on April 26th - but it will still be very difficult against a decent Scouse outfit.
