Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted his interest in signing England international Owen Hargreaves, but faces little chance in securing the player's signature. Bayern Munich have released a club statement confirming that they have no intention of listening to offers for the 25-year-old.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed his interest in bringing Owen Hargreaves to Old Trafford, but faces a tough task in bringing the midfielder to Old Trafford.

"We are keen to bring Hargreaves here. He is an excellent talent." said Sir Alex, following press speculation linking the player with a move to the Red Devils.

"We are trying hard but Bayern are proving very stubborn and resistant, which I can understand. We can only do our best. That's what we'll keep doing because we are trying to build a strong squad of players."

The player is keen on a move to the Premiership, but Bayern Munich have released a statement confirming they wish to hold onto the player who is contracted to stay in Germany until 2010.

"Bayern has not held negotiations with Manchester United." said the club on their official web-site.

"Furthermore, the club does not intend entering transfer negotiations regarding Owen Hargreaves. Bayern Munich has officially requested Manchester United to cease pursuing its interest in Owen Hargreaves."

Hargreaves' reputation has improved greatly following some excellent form on the international scene with England. His performances have warranted interest from a host of Premiership clubs, but United have been quick to register official interest and are rumoured to have seen a £12million bid turned down by the Bundesliga giants.
