West Bromwich Albion have rejected an opening bid from United for goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak. The offer is said to be in the region of £4million, but Baggies boss Bryan Robson is holding out for a better deal.

West Bromwich Albion have rejected an undisclosed bid from Sir Alex Ferguson for goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

With Tim Howard joining Everton on loan and Ben Foster likely to join Watford in a temporary deal, United had outlined the Polish international as a leading transfer target to be understudy to veteran Edwin Van Der Sar. However, West Brom are holding firm for a substantial offer for the shot stopper.

Baggies boss and former United star Bryan Robson told the press: "United know the position. They have made us an offer but it is not what we want. So that is still not a deal at this moment in time. It all depends on United now."

He went onto suggest that the Midlands outfit are interested in bringing United players to the Hawthorns as a makeweight in any deal for Kuszczak. "What we are after is the cash, which United have offered us, and two players to come this way as well. One would be permanent and one would be on loan, but I won't say who they are."
