Giuseppe Rossi has won ManUtdWeb's 'Reserve Team Player of the Year' award with a massive majority. The 19-year-old picked up 77% of the votes as he secured the crown ahead of Markus Neumayr and Gerard Piqué. It's now time to pick your 'Young Player' of the season.
United forward Giuseppe Rossi has picked up
ManUtdWeb's 'Reserve Team Player of the Season' award.
The young Italian picked up a massive 77% of the votes, easily beating rivals
Markus Neumayr and Gerard Piqué to claim the accolade.
Rossi was always a clear favourite to take the award after a series of glistening performances for United's reserve team. He netted 30 goals as Rene Meulensteen's 'stiffs' enjoyed a fantastic season and he netted four first-team goals from 12 appearances for good measure!
We now move onto the 'young player' award and once again there are three candidates.
Wayne Rooney - Regarded as England's strongest talent, it is hard to believe the forward is still only 20-years-old. Rooney enjoyed another superb season in the red jersey, netting 19 goals in 48 club appearances and further enhancing himself as a superb all-round player. Picking up the PFA Young Player of the Year capped a great season for Rooney, who helped United to League Cup success in February - his first major honour with the club.
Giuseppe Rossi - Having so emphatically
picked up the 'Reserve Team' award, the 19-year-old deserves a nomination for
the 'Young Player' crown. His performances for the reserves have propelled him
to the verge of regular first-team football as he continues to show supporters
so much promise and potential. Rossi recently signed a two-year contract
extension which will keep him at the club until 2010.
Cristiano Ronaldo - From an English perspective, it is easy to forget
Ronaldo's contribution to United last season following the World Cup finals. The
Portuguese international may not be the most popular player when the new
Premiership campaign kicks-off in August, but his form on the pitch earned him a
place in the Premiership's 'Team of the Year' and he continued to provide a
potent attacking threat from midfield throughout the campaign. United truly do
have a superb young talent in Ronaldo.
