The Reds have come out of the first game of their tour suffering a loss, after falling to a 4-3 defeat on penalties against one of America's top sides, DC United. Forest can come out of the match with some credit as they managed to hold a fully-fit and full-strength DC side to a draw in normal time.

Promising performance despite a loss.

Nottingham Forest lost 4-3 on penalties after a grueling game which ended in a 1-1 draw between themselves and DC United. The Reds have to come out of the game with a lot of credit, however- our boys were up against a fully-fit and full strength DC side who are mid-way through their league season.

DC opened the scoring as hendrickson planted a header out of the keeper's reach after just nine minutes of this morning's game, but that was soon cancelled out by last season's top scorer, Andy Reid, who netted home just after the half-hour mark for The Trickies.

Wonderkid Freddy Adu did not score during regulation time and was in fact denied a goal twice in the game, but he did manage to comfortably slot his spot-kick into the back of the Forest net with a superb example of cool, clinical finishing.

But rather ironically, it was Forest old-boy Ben Olsen, who has a loan-spell with us during the dark-days of Platt, who converted the winning penalty for one of the best teams in America.

The manager's reaction:

"The fact that we emerged from the game without many injuries is all that really matters at this stage of pre-season."

Joe Kinnear also spoke of DC: "I thought the team played well tonight as there are a lot of impressive players. In fact, I would like to take a few of them home with me."
