The young Swiss star, and Sauber Petronas test driver, Neel Jani was in a heavy accident during yesterday's Formula Renault V6 race at Magny-Cours. Jani escaped unhurt. The race was running in conditions similar to the Brazilian GP this year. Due to a fuel pump failure, Jani came to a halt on the circuit, and was subsequently collected by the following Christian Murchison at high speed.

The young driver's car immediately caught fire, and Jani had to be rescued from the flames. He was taken from the wreckage without suffering injuries.

The race was immediately stopped, and finishing positions appointed after only 9 laps. This gave Jani 2nd place, with the race winner being Jaime Melo. As the event was over early in the race, half points were awarded.

Jani had won the first two races of Formula Renault V6 in Barcelona, and continues to lead the Championship.
