Sauber won't commit to 2003 Friday-only testing

The deadline arrives this Sunday 15 December by which all F1 teams must notify the FIA as to whether they wish to take advantage of the new Friday testing option. From day one it was clear that Minardi would take full advantage of the scheme, and following the loss of its primary sponsor Jordan too looks likely to sign up in an effort to save money.

It's thought that Sauber is seriously considering the idea. However the team has always shown itself eager to do as much testing as possible. While the idea of Friday testing would reduce costs significantly, it could dilute the close partnership Sauber have with Ferrari.

For that reason alone, Sauber Speak feels that Sauber will not join up. This could lead to the removal of the Friday testing rule, as at least three teams must commit, continuing the F1 cost spiral.
