Marvyn's gone, Brittons in Brechin, Smith is in limbo and Gretna stand still (Maybe), does the Bells Scottish first division get any more exciting than this?

Confirmation of the departure of Marvyn Wilson will be of most interest to Airdrie fans. It seems his departure from Airdrie may have been less than amicable. After under going a knee operation he has departed to the land of the Accies.

 

On the same day as shocked Alex Smith MBE, received his gong he was sacked from Ross County, Fans of County maintain it was not before time. Yet there seems to be a miss understanding with in the club, Smith is maintaining that the goal posts were moved while he was on holiday and Ross County insist it was a mutual decision, oh the controversy!

 

Ian Campbell manager of Brechin and brother of relegate Partick Thistle manager Dick Campbell has held talks with Gerry Britton. It is not clear whether the ex-Partick Thistle manager is wanted as a coach or as a player? At 34 could Britton who hardly kicked a ball last season still compete?

 

Gretna have stated that they will not be buying any more players for their battle to win the Bells Second division, why is this of interest to us? Well it’s not really but after reading the headline in the Sunday mail. “ROWAN SETS SIGHTS ON JUMPING TWO DIVISIONS” It made me think. If the SPL decided to increase the size of the leagues at the end of next season to 16 or 18 teams could a team in Gretna’s situation apply for admission?

If for instance there is no quibble about promotion ourselves, St Mirren, St Johnstone win the league and are automatically promoted there is no relegation from the SPL that would then mean they top division in Scotland would be looking for another two possibly four to join them. Is there anything to say they would have to take the next highest placed teams in the league? For instance, taking Partick Thistle Morton or Gretna would be more appealing than taking Clyde, would the promotion work on league position or application?
