Airdrie make it five win from five as we win at home against second placed Alloa and in doing so move up two places to take second place. A good place to be ahead of the upcoming league break for the Scottish Cup weekend. A special mention this week has to go to Alloa's player manager Jim Goodwin for a great days work. 

Above i've mention Jim Goodwins contribution to the Airdrie cause but really that only takes away from Airdrie's first half performance, we defended as a team we went forward as a team and the two nil lead we had at half time was deserved. Our first goal saw Iain Russell and Andy Ryan to combine, Ryan's return pass across the face of the six yard box left Jim Goodwin with only one option and that was to deal with and deal with it he did as he fired the ball past Neil Parry to give the Diamonds a one nil lead.

On 35 minutes Jim Goodwin was involved once again this time it resulted with Marc Fitzpatrick being stretchered off, there was nothng in the challenge and it looked as though Marc tripped over Goodwins legs, after he landed it was obvious something was seriously wrong as he waved to bench for the physio.

Now I will admit to being a critic of Marc this season but soon after the restart it became obvious that we were going to miss his presence in the middle of the park.

Although weakened it was Airdrie who would extend our lead, just before half time Adam Brown raced on to a loose ball and made a run down the line, his precise cross found Ryan who slotted past Neil Parry to make it 2-0.

In the second half Jim Goodwin did Alloa a favour and got himself sent off, his second yellow came as he went through the back of Airdrie's Andy Ryan and this either resolved Alloa will or we switched off. It took a while but Mark Wilson and his back room changed our formation from our standard 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 this was the correct move as it would, we hoped, allow us to pass the ball in to wider positions and force Alloa to chase the game and tire them out faster. That only works if your team can hold on to the ball for more than a few moments at a time.

So the match went end to end as Airdrie tired to hold on to the ball we lost it more and more and that gave Alloa confidence, there deserved goal came after 67 minutes when Scott Taggart fired a volley over Rohan Ferguson.

Airdrie pushed for a third goal and we did have chances, Adam Brown fired a pass to Iain Russell who stumbled when through on goal, then in the final minutes Joe Gorman got on the end of a corner and his goal bound header was turned against the Post by Neil Parry.

In the end Alloa ran out of time and Airdrie won the game 2-1.

Prediction League

The prediction league has a new leader, thanks to another 2-1 victory Chris Mac has moved to the top position.

Don't forget we are only covering the league matches in this seasons prediction league so we have a week off for the upcoming Airdrie Vs. Livingston match in the Scottish Cup.
