Or alternatively they've just helped create SPL 2, where teams will probably still play each other 4 times a season (with some sort of split still) and where Rangers get invited in. The redistribution of cash may now not be offered. And the refusal of the change in vote on league reconstruction from 11-1 to 9-3 will probably mean even less chance of a bigger top flight happening.

Time will tell. Maybe SPL 2 wont happen. I couldn't really care - just offering an alternative viewpoint.

Where could this leave Airdrie? Possibly left outside looking in with less money (or no more money anyway). Or maybe we'll get invited. Who knows. We'll still be p1sh poor though, im fairly sure of that.

Let's hope Gilmore isn't being mendacious, and that the reasons for changing their minds on reconstruction are what they've stated. I'd hate to think that there are some other motivation (Rangers/SPL2) at play...

The admin comment is laughable. The "rest of scottish football" = 2 clubs. Div 1 clubs are worse off after the SPL board and clubs managed a compromise that offered a way out of the current mess which 2 clubs then reneged on. Will be interested to hear the accounts from Paisley and Dingwall and how much their narrow self interest mattered compared to standing up for Scottish football.

Have to agree with Polomint on this one, I reckon it's only a matter of time before the real reasons for St Midden and County's opposition become apparent and one thing I think it won't be, and that's the good of Scottish Football.

The biggest loss for me in this whole debacle is the uniting of governing bodies into one.

Wonder about the role of sponsors and TV.

Id gusess that they want to remain under cover to avoid fans indignation but they are saying to the SPL that they place a lot less value on the current set up and the idea of bigger divisions that some fans want. So they hang the SPL/members and their chief executive out to dry by insisting on commercial confidentiality. if the proposals fail then the sponsirs and TV companies avoid flak but the leagues and in particular Div 1 clubs and ambitious clubs like Spartans lose out - a lot.

I think the state of Scottish Football was starkly exhibited on Saturday and Sunday, The Scottish Cup Semi-Finals had 22,410 at the Falkirk Hibs match and not many more at the Dundee United Celtic match, meanwhile down south Millwall and Wigan, hardly either massive centres of population
(OK Millwall is part of Greater London, but only a small part) had an attendance of 62,335.

The opportunity has been lost to make the 2 Divisions (SPL & Div.1) stronger and more attractive to sponsors/tv, plus of course merging of the bodies (SPL/SFL) & play off/pyramid below Div. 3.

The 1st Division is fast becoming a lame duck like the SPL - witness crowds at games across the season. The cash injection for 1st Division clubs would have made a big difference - that is now gone and I fear things will only get worse financially for many 1st Div. clubs next season. <>

TV companies and various sponsors don't want that set up. Fans getnwhatbtheybwant means less money in game. TV getsbtheirnwishes and fewer fans attend. Quite a dilemma

I don't think it is a dilemma. Football will die if fans stop going and that is what is happening becasue people are tired of playing the same teams four times a season. We can not allow Sky to dictate how our game is organised. If they don't like it tough they TV deal is @#$%& anyway. Not that anyone other than Lawell or Doncaster knows what it is. The 12-12-18 proposals where rediculous.

Apparently the SFL are working on a proposal which will retain the good point of what was being discussed and hopefully a better league set up, probably 14-14-14 which is not 16 or 18 which most of us want but better.

What about 20-22 or 21-21 ?

It works in England/Wales with leagues of 20 and 24.
