The Fans plans for Scottish Football

Over the past few years Supporters Direct have ran two surveys and have now collated all the information. It's published on the Supporters Direct website.

The Fans’ Plan calls for:

  • greater competition within Scottish league football structures
  • equal funding for each team in a league
  • support for clubs by central league management to increase the average attendance over a season of 20% by 2016, and achieve an average stadium capacity utilisation of 65% within 10 years
  • two leagues of 16 teams, and a qualifying league of 10
  • re-introducing the League Cup, with a mini-league qualifying format structured on a geographical basis with four teams in each group
  • improved training and professional development for all players including greater use of Modern Apprenticeships and post-career planning
  • the establishment and implementation of a strong club licensing scheme

In div 2 every team bar Brechin has something to play for. Larger leagues may mean more meaningless games at the business end of the season.

Larger leagues seem to work fine throughout the rest of Europe.



Also last year in the Championship in England which I believe I'm right in saying is one of the largest league structures in Europe only had 1 meaningless game on the last day of the season. How many meaningless games are we going to have in our 1st division this season?

Im also in favour of a much larger league. Playing each other 4 times a season is not appealing. I like the idea of a 20 team league, that will give us 38 league games a season and each team will play all the others home and away once each. Like Tory Boy says it works elsewhere so why not here?

We should play thistle, Motherwell, Aberdeen, hibs, hearts, rangers and Celtic constantly with zero police presence...................... Ahhhhhhhh dreams

......think we should go back to two leagues,of 18 and 20.
Plus all gate money should be halved .
Also like in England there should be a "pyramid" setting,with East of Scotland,Highland League and Juniors (if they are interested) playing off against bottom two Clubs in the Lower league. No delays start next season once the "new" Rangers are up and running.
Plus bring back standing terracing .
