Smyth making good progress

Reported on the Scottish Football League website, Marc Smyth seems to be making a quick recovery. Airdrie defender Marc Smyth is making good progress after last week’s groin operation with Diamonds’ manager Kenny Black saying, “Marc was operated on 10 days ago and it is a similar procedure to one he went through in the summer on the other side of his groin. He came back quickly then and we are hoping for the same this time out.”

do the players have to wait on treatment on the NHS or are they covered by a private care package by the club?

The players have their own and the club have paid for treatment but there is no club insurance.

thats astonishing when you consider injuries are part and parcel of their career.
so if a player cannot afford insurance they are on an nhs waiting list?
smyth needed this operation weeks ago.
it's really strange, the SAFA insist on teams having Insurance, in fact your not allowed to play without it.
I have cover for all my guys for £100 per season, surely it's a proviso in the seniors as well.

I doubt your insurance will cover private health care and rehabilitation.
It will be a public liability thing. I'm sure there'll be an expert on here to clarify
it is limited yes, the public liability is seperate and included in your SAFA fees, the personal accident insurance covers broken bones etc, time off work and the like, intrestingly enough you get more for losing sight in an eye playing football than you do from being killed playing football

You don't know what op he got. Could of had it weeks ago isn't necessarily the case. He may well have made the end of the season with the problem not affecting his play. As soon as it did it was dealt with. Private route, with an expert in groin surgery. Club payed the cost and if it was on NHS it would have been at least the end of season before it was done.
I should think so, why should footballers jump the NHS waiting list,
I dislocated my knee 3 years ago twice in 4 weeks, 6 months ago I went to the doctors because its still giving me a bit of trouble (not pain just sometimes discomfort) and I need some cartlidge shaved in my knee and the doctor said I wouldn't be getting the op because "I wasn't a professional footballer". quality NHS eh!
i spoke to marc at the airdrie aces holloween party he told me he had an op on his groin at the end of last season and it was a f**k up so he had to go through it again. the 2nd op would have been the 1st week in september. spoke to him and scott gemmill at the last home game during half time and both said they were back training that week and well on the way to recovery.
