After our last match against Clyde at Broadwood in December a Bully Wee director invited JB upstairs to the boardroom to let him see all the improvements that are currently being made at the Cumbernauld stadium.
Once in the boardroom the Clyde director handed Jim a Stella. They both looked through the window and out into the empty stadium. “Have a look at this Jim” as he opened a door to reveal a complex control panel.
“Keep your eyes on the pitch” as he flicked a switch.
Jim looked in amazement as the Broadwood pitch was lowered then flooded to become an Olympic standard swimming pool. “Very nice” commented the Airdrie supremo.
“That’s not all it can do, watch this” as the Clyde man flicked another switch. The pool gradually freezes over to become an ice hockey pitch.
“That’s amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it” says the Diamonds chairman through gritted teeth.
“I’m not finished yet Jim wait till you see this” the host flicked yet another switch and to JB’s astonishment the frozen pitch was flipped over to reveal a stage with rows and rows of seating.
“We are hoping to use this facility to host rock concerts,” said the Broadwood executive.
The Airdrie Chairman was clearly impressed so asked the Bully Wee Exec” If you don’t mind me asking how much did all this lot set you back? As I wouldn’t mind having a plastic pitch installed at New Broomfield.”
“ Not as much as you would think,” answered the Clyde man. “In total it came to three thousand pound”
Jim laughed, “ Your pulling my leg, who could possibly do all that complex engineering for such a small outlay of capital?” Jim enquired.
The Broadwood exec leaned over to Jim and said” Listen, if you keep this to yourself, I’ll give you the number of the mob that installed this wonderful facility”
Jim was delighted. The first thing he did when he arrived at New Broomfield in the morning was to give the number a ring. “Hello” said the voice that answered, “North Lanarkshire Council, How may I help you?”

it was a dream...
You'd think that the councillor who 'facilitates' the opportunity would of course 'find' the 'opportunity cost' in order to 'realise' the 'ambition' of the 'project'?
PS, Airdrieonian, did you see/hear on the news in the past few days that KPMG have a 'FRAUD BAROMETER'. Coudn't make it up, honest.
