Leigh RMI manager Geoff Lutley has reacted to the poor goalscoring form of his side with the likely capture of former England Youth international Ashley Scothern from Bradford Park Avenue. Bizarrely, Lutley had to field three goalkeepers in his starting eleven in Tuesday night's humiliating 5-1 Marsden Trophy home defeat to Southport in the Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy, including young stopper Daniel Moreton leading the line up front, with Lutley looking to tie up the capture of Scothern before Saturday's FA Trophy encounter at home to Altrincham as he continues his search for an effective strike force.

Leigh have been short of goals since the departure of prolific striker David McNiven to Queen of the South in the summer, and although the likes of Chris Simm and Gary Williams have shown promise, they haven't turned that potential in to goals. With experienced former Scarborough striker Karl Rose set for a lengthy period on the sidelines following an ankle operation, Lutley has also given Chorley the permitted seven days notice of his intention to sign their former Bury striker Daniel Douglas-Pringle, hot on the heels of last week's signing of former Carlisle youngster Michael Reed from Penrith.
