RMI made their shortest away trip of the season to Northwich Victoria on the August Bank Holiday Monday, and made the short return journey from Cheshire complete with all three points thanks to Wayne Maden's first half strike. The left foot drive from former Blackpool star Maden was enough to give the points to RMI in what was a deserved victory in a game they dominated for long periods, despite being the away side.

Although Northwich created the usual half chances, they didn't look to pose much of a threat to RMI's superiority who in all fairness could've won the game by a lot more goals than the one goal which did eventually separate the sides.

RMI could've taken the lead a lot earlier, with former England semi professional international Warren Peyton firing the ball inches over the bar with a rip-roaring strike, and hotshot David McNiven, who had scored in all of RMI's previous outings, smashed the ball against the woodwork from twenty yards out.

RMI goalkeeper Stuart Coburn was rarely called into action, although he was called into action to yet again pull off a stunning save to save RMI's bacon following Maden's strike in the thirty-ninth minute of the game.

RMI fully deserved their victory and the three points will provide a huge boost as the Railwaymen look to make a good start to the season and get points in the bank early on, with their primary objective to avoid relegation, although Leigh manager Mark Patterson touted his side as possible dark horses for a play off place prior to the start of the season.
