Former Bolton Wanderers and Manchester United striker Paul Wheatcroft looks set to sign on the dotted line at Hilton Park following his release from Third Division side Scunthorpe United.

22 year old striker Wheatcroft signed for Scunthorpe in the summer following release from Bolton Wanderers but Wheatcroft failed to make an impression at Glanford Park and has been released.

Wheatcroft started his career as a trainee at Manchester United but didn't play a first team game prior to signing for Bolton before the 2000/2001 season. While at the Reebok Stadium, Wheatcroft spent loan spells at Rochdale and Mansfield Town before being released. Ironically, Wheatcroft made his Bolton debut in a pre season friendly against RMI and many of his reserve game for Bolton came at Hilton Park.

If Wheatcroft signs for Leigh, he will become new manager Mark Patteron's second signing following the signature of Doncaster striker Daniel Bent on a month's loan last week.
