Baguley is back!

Chris Baguley

Prolific front man Chris Baguley has finally completed his return to Leigh Genesis and immediately stated his commitment to Garry Flitcroft’s side, having discovered first hand that the grass isn’t necessarily always greener on the other side.

Having previously played for Oldham Athletic, Australian outfit Mandurah City and FC United of Manchester, Baguley arrived at the club in the summer with brother Jamie, both with big reputations on the non-league scene.

Since making a goalscoring debut in the 3-1 win at Rossendale on the opening day of the season, Chris quickly established himself as the one of the division's hot-shots, scoring a hugely impressive eleven goals from seventeen appearances, with ten of those from the substitutes bench. However, despite his goalscoring ratio, Baguley only made two starting league appearances and as such left for neighbours Salford City a little over a month ago.

Although first team opportunities weren't something that Baguley had to worry about at Moor Lane, he was soon hankering for the Leigh Sports Village Stadium, and was an interested spectator at the recent 3-1 victory over high-flying Colwyn Bay, setting the local rumour machine in to overdrive.

Now back with Leigh for a second spell, Baguley admitted that it may have been a mistake to leave the club in the first place.

"I didn't realise just how much I really enjoyed my time at Leigh. The standard of training with Garry (Flitcroft) and Mike (Quigley). The people I get to play with, especially Matt Jansen, and the general professionalism that Garry has created."

Manager Flitcroft was understandably delighted at signing the man who remains his side's top scorer so far this season, albeit level on goals with Jordan Stepien.

"It's good to have him back, he has fantastic ability and scores goals. My challenge to him is to work harder at clouding defenders to improve that side of his game. If he can do that, then there is no reason wju he shouldn't play a few leagues above us."

Baguley finds himself in good shape after a recent spell of intensive training, and is hoping to shake off a slight flu bug in time to face AFC Fylde at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium this Saturday.

"I can't wait to get back into it here and am committed to putting 100% into proving that my return was for the best".

exactly wat i was finkin dat we need im back. i rate thompson pretty poorly im affraid. he fails to perform in big games and seems to be more interested in moaning to the ref or elbowing people in d face. (my opinion)

I quite rate Tommo myself, but he's been off the boil a bit in recent weeks and I agree that he should just start concentrating on his own game rather than what the ref is up to etc.

i heard that they both have signed for New Mills. they are well off due to a wealthy chairman (something to do with P&O cruises i think.

Looks like they've both signed for New Mills but because they're in a lower league we don't necessarily have to de-register them, apparently.

Must admit that I thought our midfield certainly wasn't weaker for their absence yesterday - Heald and Flitcroft were both excellent.
