Curzon Ashton vs. Leigh Genesis preview

Curzon Ashton

After getting their season off to a perfect start with Saturday's 3-1 win away to Rossendale United, Leigh Genesis are back in action as early as tomorrow (Monday) evening, when they make the short trip down the M60 to face Curzon Ashton.

Curzon, FA Cup giantkillers last season after beating Leigh at the First Qualifying Round stage and, erm, the small matter of Exeter City in the First Round Proper, got off to a similarly perfect start with a 2-0 home victory over Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday.

The sides last met in the aofrementioned FA Cup tie last season, when the hosts ran out 1-0 victors after prize asset Michael Norton raced on to a horrible Josh Wilson backpass to round then-goalkeeper Steve Dickinson. Of the Leigh side that played that day, only Jordan Stepien remains with the club as Garry Flitcroft's side look to make a 100% start to the season from a testing two away games in three days.

Supporters travelling by car to the Tameside Stadium should leave the M60 at junction 23, turning right off the sliproad and then right at the next set of lights on to the A6140. Follow this road until you to come a set of traffic lights with the cinema on your right hand side, turn left at these lights and over the bridge. Go straight over the mini roundabout and then turn left immediately afterwards, following the road down to the Tameside Stadium, with the car park on your right hand side.

Admission costs £6 for adults and just £2 for concessions and juniors, with kick off at 7.45pm on Monday evening.

The directions shown in the preview are not totally accurate.

When you come off the M60 you need to turn right at the second set of traffic lights and then right again.

The first set would take you back onto the motorway.

Pedantic, maybe, but you wouldn't wish to miss the ko I'm sure.

Thanks for that, wrote it completely from memory having been there 3/4 times already. Worth mentioning that I've yet to find the place at the first attempt on any of those occasions!

Maybe this will get you there without too much trouble.

Leave the M60 at junc 23 (Ashton-U-Lyne) and turn right at the top of the slip road signposted A635 Manchester. Turn right at the second set of traffic lights (sign posted Ashton Moss) and then right at the next set onto Lord Sheldon Way. You will see Ashton Garden Centre on your left and the Car People Garage on your right.

Through the traffic lights, first exit off the roundabout and then left at the traffic lights where you have the cinema on your right.

Straight across at the mini-roundabout and then first left down to the ground.

Took most of this off the UniBond site, and it is this easy -say's he! Hope you have no probs finding it tomorrow. If I don't see your posting on Tuesday I'll know you're still looking!!!

Once I remember to turn right off the slip road, it's a doddle. Problem being, I also turned right when going to Ashton United!

It has been known, honestly!

If you end up at IKEA, double back on yourself and turn right at the traffic lights at the top of the hill.

I ended up at IKEA 3 times when trying to find Ashton Utd. And then ended up at Curzon when they played Exeter when instead I was supposed to be going to our 'home' game against North Ferriby at Ashton Utd!

Relatively sure I know where it is, though I've still got my mate's sat nav as a back up!
