In keeping with a turbulent week, Leigh Genesis have taken the opportunity to change their first team manager, with existing boss Steve Bleasdale understandably departing the job to assess offers from other clubs who would be able to pay him a wage that befits his qualification, with 'Bleo' replaced by reserve manager Lee Merricks.

When considering the majority of Leigh's current squad is made up of players that had previously been representing the Genesis reserve side this season, the appointment of Merricks (pictured below) is a natural step to take as the club attempts to build on-field stability.

On behalf of the club's supporters, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bleo for his effort and commitment whilst manager of this club, whilst also showing a degree of honesty and approachability that has been lacking with previous managers.

Bleasdale's departure is completely understandable as it was never likely that a manager of his quality would continue to work for the club on a voluntary basis, whilst the appointment of Merricks will be a source of comfort for Leigh's young players as they look to make the step up in quality to first team level.
