The pathetic David Beckham made it even more obvious that the next Wales captain will be vital to any chances we have in the rugby world cup next Autumn. For the runners and riders read on.
Gareth Thomas
Pros - Has led the side to their biggest success since finishing 3rd in the '87 world cup, a world class player who has also led the Lions and is respected throughout the world.
Cons - Still a lot of talk over his involvement in "Ruddockgate" and what role he took in the player power. If Gyppo keeps his policy of starting with a clean slate then it doesn't look great for Alfie. His media ability is suspect as shown on the notorious episode of Scrum V.
Zippy Chances - Warm
Stephen Jones
Pros - Been the best and most consistent Welsh player over the past few seasons and gained so much more depth to his game from playing in France. Has really matured as a person and really relaxed in media spotlight.
Cons - Is he under enough pressure playing at 10 for Wales already?
Zippy Chances - The favourite
Duncan Jones
Pros - A real cult hero with supporters and his honest graft earned him Welsh player of the year last season, captained the side on the recent tour to Argentina.
Cons - Quite a quiet character and still quite new to leading a team
Zippy Chances - Wouldn't be a massive shock
Michael Owen
Pros - When he is on fire a real asset to the side and helps moves flow, has also led the side during the grand slam.
Cons - Badly out of form and not likely to start unless his form improves.
Zippy Chances -Stock has fallen
Ryan Jones
Pros - Burst onto the scene with Wales and the Lions and has the ability to be a world beater, during his injury he had impressed with his confidence and knowledge in front of the camera as a pundit.
Cons - Just coming back from a serious injury, still very young, not his time.
Zippy Chances - Long shot
