Albion step up hunt for new keeper

West Bromwich Albion will step up their search for a new goal keeper after having had a third bid for Preston keeper Andrew Lonergan rejected lastnight. Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo has made no secret of his search for a new keeper as he looks to strengthen the position and bring in fresh competition for Scott Carson upon their return to the Premier League.

Little has been revealed about the nature of West Brom's three bids for Lonergan, although they clearly fall short of the £2 million price tag slapped on the 26 year old keeper by the Championship club.  Preston boss Darren Ferguson stated that any deal between themselves and West Brom regarding Lonergan was dead in the water, with Ferguson believing his value to be closer to £20 million.

West Brom now look set to revive interest in other known targets, such as Hull City's Boaz Myhill, Sheffield wednesday's Lee Grant and Marton Fulop of Sunderland.
