Thorne smashes 88 year old record

West Brom youngster George Thorne became the youngest player to grace the field for West Bromwich Albion in a league game yesterday, smashing an 88 year old record. Gaffer Roberto Di Matteo handed a substitute appearance to the 16 year old in the 88th minute - replacing two times goal scorer Simon Cox.

Thorne, who turns 17 in January next year, can proudly call himself the second youngest player to have played part of a league game for West Bromwich Albion.

The record for that is still held by Charlie Wilson, who made a debut for the Baggies also aged 16 and 73 days in 1921.
