West Bromwich Albion chairman Jeremy Peace confirmed this afternoon that Celtic have now officially made enquiries with the club about acquiring the services of Tony Mowbray as their new manager. The news confirms a fortnight of speculation linking Mowbray with the Scottish club since the departure of Gordon Strachan, after the Parkhead club failed to pip Rangers to the SPL title.

There remains still a very strong 'hands off' approach from Albion, who maintain that Mowbray is an integral part of their plans to move the club forward.

But fans will be awaiting news of Mowbray's fate - with various sources including Sky Sports News claiming that Celtic will reveal the 45 year old as their next manager tomorrow.

Jeremy Peace confirmed the official approach from Celtic's cheif executive Peter Lawwell this afternoon, but insisted he made it perfectly clear the approach was unwelcomed despite admitting that talks over compensation payments had already taken place.

Mowbray will come at a heavy cost for the Bhoy's.  The unconfirmed figure is believed to be in the region of £1-2 million, with Peace being firmly of the belief that the 16,000 fans who have renewed season tickets for next season did so in the belief that Mowbray would be manning the ship.

But Peace has admitted that they could be in line to lose Mowbray.  He states that only if the SPL club agree to the compensation figure will they be granted access to talk to the Baggies gaffer.  But with word from the Celtic camp already suggesting that they are willing to meet those demands it looks very much as if the final decision will lie in the hands of Mowbray himself.
