FA Cup Fever!

Trying to concentrate on the league luckily is an obstacle out of the way now that Albion’s midweek fixture has been and gone against Cardiff, a fixture which oddly ended with the Ninian Park staff playing out Que Sera Sera with both sets of fans singing out the words “we’re going to Wembley”. Now Tony Mowbray and his boys can turn their attentions to the very same FA Cup fever gripping the fans

I imagine trying to keep the bubbling excitement from the players under wraps has been a tough task, and today Tony Mowbray finally allowed himself to be consumed by the passion of the Cup, as he admitted he was spurred on by boyhood memories of the 1973 cup final when Sunderland defeated top flight giants Leeds United.

Whether Albion can produce the goods and dump out the only surviving Premiership outfit in the competition to produce an all Championship final remains to be seen.  But his players are most certainly up for the challenge.  Roman Bednar, about to taste his first ever trip to Wembley, is looking to add to his FA Cup goals tally, which currently stands at 4, and had scored in each round before the quarter final fixture against Bristol Rovers.

Ishmael Miller has taken great satisfaction that his permanent January move to the Hawthorns has given him the chance to get one over on best friend and former team mate Micah Richards at Manchester City, after they were knocked out of the competition in the 4th round by Championship opposition Sheffield United.

Zoltan Gera, no stranger to success on home turf in Hungary insists that winning the FA Cup would far outweigh any of the domestic titles and trophies he won with Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Add to all this the desperation to not to repeat the fortunes of Albion’s last visit to the new Wembley, a disastrous Play Off final against Derby County, and what you have indeed is one very determined club.  And what a way to get Midlands football back on the map.
