Jarno Trulli missed out on claiming Panasonic Toyota Racing's second consecutive pole in France today, and indeed their second ever. The Italian was the final Michelin runner to lap the Magny-Cours circuit, crossing the line 0.109 seconds slower than Fernando Alonso.

In an overcast day at the centre of France, Alonso managed to secure a home-pole for Renault, with Trulli second and Kimi Raikkonen qualifying third. An engine penalty will drop the Finn down to thirteent, promoting current World Champion Michael Schumacher to third.

The German's younger brother, Toyota's Ralf Schumacher made his race return this weekend after skipping the last "Grand Prix" following a tyre failure on his Toyota leaving him with blurred vision.

He was left with the disadvantage of lapping the circuit first, running deep into the Adelaide hairpin. Schumacher qualified ten places behind his team mate, in twelfth. However the penalty of Kimi Raikkonen will promote him to eleventh.
