San Marino Update: Ralf Penalised

Unseen from the T.V camera’s, Toyota’s Ralf Schumacher has been given a twenty-five second penalty dropping him out of the points due to an ‘unfair manoeuvre’ in the pit lane. Toyota are set to appeal against this penalty.

The occurrence, which was looked at by the stewards after the race, penalised Ralf after an incident involving BMW Williams driver Nick Heidfeld in the pit lane. Afterwards the stewards found the Toyota driver at fault, demoting him out of the top ten with a twenty-five second penalty. This puts Nick Heidfeld up into eighth and earns him a single point.

 

It has been confirmed that Panasonic Toyota Racing will appeal against the penalty as team principal Tsutomu Tomita explained: "In view of the extremely vague description of the regulation and a number of similar incidents which have gone unpunished, Toyota has decided to appeal the decision of the stewards in order to clarify this issue for the future."
