Three races into the 2005 Formula One World Championship and Toyota are second in the constructor’s championship, with two gleaming trophies in their newly opened trophy cabinet. What a change from 12 months ago, and Toyota’s technical director Mike Gascoyne tells us why!

After the Bahrain Grand Prix where Jarno Trulli took the teams second podium of the season (that’s if you’ve forgotten already…) Mike Gascoyne the man behind Toyota’s sharp turn in fortunes admitted that regulation changes in 2005 'levelled the playing field.'

 

“Undoubtedly," Gascoyne told Reuters. "Instead of having to catch up, we were able to do as good a job as the top teams."

 

Asked about Ferrari’s sudden change of form, our Gazza simply put it down to them being 'caught out' in the aero/engine/tyre shake up. But he then warned: "They will ... be strong again, even if they won't be dominant."

 

I’m sure the San Marino Grand Prix will be our first taste of Toyota vs. Ferrari!
