World Champion Fernando Alonso has stuck the knife in at Honda, claiming that the Brackley outfit haven't got a chance of winning the championship. "Knowing what it takes to win a title," said the Spaniard, "I think they need years running at the top first. Next year is more realistic for them."

Team boss Nick Fry was quick to rebut the claim, commenting to reporters at the San Marino Grand Prix that Alonso's comments were "a little bit of wishful thinking on his part."

"We've got a great engine, great car and proven driver," continued Fry. "All we need is a little bit of luck.

"I am 100% confident the car is incredibly fast and, with Jenson driving it, is capable of being faster than anyone else over a few laps. Now we have got to make sure it works over 62 laps too.

"We are working like crazy 24 hours a day. This is not for want of lack of effort but F1 is incredibly difficult. If we keep working hard we will get there."
