BAR Honda's Jenson Button set the pace on the teams first day of testing at Barcelona. It was an incident filled day, with various drivers, including both WilliamsF1 and both Renault drivers causing red flag periods. Although the times show that Button was 1.7s ahead of his closest rival (Montagny). it should be noted that the Englishman was using a restricted V10 power-plant, as was the Renault tester. Fastest driver using a V8 was Jarno Trulli, who finished 0.4s quicker than teammate Ricardo Zonta.

Button spent the day switching between two cars, both using the V10, but both featuring a different aerodynamic package.

Anthony Davidson was also on duty for the Brackley team, the Englishman a 'B' spec 2005 car fitted with the Honda V8. The car also featured a new gearbox and rear suspension.

Propping up the timesheets were the two Williams cars, driven by Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg. The German spent much of the day kicking his heels, as his car suffered a number of technical problems.
