The Williams F1 team today confirmed the appointment of Jorg Zander as the company's Chief Designer, seeing a key member of BAR Honda's team moving to the rival outfit with immediate effect. As Williams restructure their team and try to regain competitiveness, they took the decision to hire BAR Honda's Jorg Zander, the teams Chief Engineer for Mechanics and Transmission, to lead the key decisions to be taken on the development of their 2006 car, the FW28.

Zander was responsible for a number of key parts on the BAR Honda car, most notably the advanced steering rack system, as well as the carbon gearbox.

A Mechanical Engineering graduate of Cologne University, Jorg has over fifteen years of premier motorsport experience, including WRC & GT experience with Toyota and ITC experience with Opel/GM alongside his Formula One credentials.

"I am delighted that Jorg has decided to join Williams as Chief Designer," said the Grove teams Patrick Head. "I believe we have set the foundation for one of the strongest technical teams in Formula One, and I have every confidence that Jorg will make a considerable contribution to our ambitions for next season and beyond."

Williams are also expecting Jenson Button to join their team for 2006, but that matter is currently under discussion as the driver attempts to remain at BAR Honda.
