Jenson Button smashes Barcelona record

Lucky Strike BAR Honda raised a few eyebrows in Barcelona today when lead driver Jenson Button lapped the revised circuit nearly a second quicker than Michael Schumacher's Ferrari, and setting a lap record in the process. The Briton set a lap time of 1:14.596, compared to Schumacher's 1:15.423. Takuma Sato, running a race trim car, set a time of 1:16.558.

Jenson, driving the BAR 'Concept' that contains the 2004 engine, set the lap while running on a very low fuel level, but it proves that the ultimate pace is already there, and that's in a car designed for Bridgestone tyres.

With the new BAR 006 due to launch in February, Honda seemingly getting to grips with reliability (not withstanding a few spectacular failures) and the team running Michelin tyres, the new season is beginning to look very good for all BAR fans.
