Brawn GP win diffuser case, car legal says FIA

As we predicted here at RealBrawnGP.com, the disputed diffuser at the rear of the Brawn GP car has been cleared by the FIA, along with those run by the Toyota and Williams teams. Importantly, this means that the race wins and points won by Brawn GP thus far remain.

An initial decision by the FIA was released this morning, stating: "The FIA International Court of Appeal has decided to deny the appeals submitted against decisions numbered 16 to 24 taken by the Panel of the Stewards on 26 March at the 2009 Grand Prix of Australia and counting towards the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship.

"Based on the arguments heard and evidence before it, the Court has concluded that the Stewards were correct to find that the cars in question comply with the applicable regulations."

The FIA International Court of Appeal will release their full findings in due course. In the meantime, the Brackley based team are able to prepare for the Chinese Grand Prix and beyond without any distractions.

Multiple other teams will now introduce their 'copycat' diffusers, with McLaren and Renault understood to have them ready for the Chinese Grand Prix. However, new sidepods and other body parts due on the Brawn GP car for the Spanish Grand Prix promise to unlock even more of the BGP 001's potential, so the wins may well continue.
