NEIL JENKINS TO MISS START OF SEASON

Further to initial reports that record international points scorer Jenkins has suffered a broken foot, we can reveal that the injury is not as serious as it was first thought.

    Jenkins has suffered an unfortunate accident whilst at Pontys training camp near Cambridge. The injury thought to be similar to the one that nearly caused David Beckham to miss the World Cup with England will keep Jenkins out of action until early September.

What does this mean for Ponty fans?

    Well Ponty have a tough match against Leinster to contend without Jenkins but initial reports that he will be out until October are said to be a little extreme. It is now thought that the injury to his left foot is not too serious and Jenkins should be available for selection for Pontys first home game of the season against Newport. However, should Jenkins take longer to recover, Paul John will be on standby as reserve outside half - he had a useful run out in that position in Pontys friendly against Neath today. 

    Another injury worry is new signing Emyr Lewis with a hamstring problem keeping him out of action for three to four weeks.
