The teams lined up before 2 sets of noisy and boisterous fans in the Dynamo end. With not much to shout about if you were a home fan. There was plenty of entertainment from both sets of fans. With some of the funnier chants aimed at Arbroath's resident Harry Potter look a like. Montrose lined up with Reid in goal, behind a back of four of Fraser at left back a central defence partnership of Stirling & Tawse and Cumming at right back. The midfield had Stewart on the right, Davidson on the left and the central partnership of Donnachie and Henslee. With Rodgers, back from suspension & Michie leading the line up front.

The game kicked off and from the get go Arbroath were a lot more up for it than Montrose. Tawse was looking good in defence stopping Willie Martin early doors. The one thing that montrose have been lacking with Higgins out injured is mobilty at the back and having Jed Stirling chasing players around is a joke.

Stewart went off in the 15th minute to be replaced by Paul Napier. 3 minutes later Arbroath took the lead from a free kick out on the left which was knocked down by Raeside and Willie Martin poached in at the back post to head it in from 6 inches. He went behind the goal and celebrated with the unwashed masses from down the coast getting booked for his troubles.

Minutes before half time a brawl broke out deep in the Montrose half and after the dust had settled, Martin got a second yellow card and walked. Stirling got booked for his part in the fight. Things were looking up and for the 2nd derby in a row at Links Park Arbroath were down to 10 men. Just before the half time whistle though Rodgers saw red for the 2nd home game in a row. He seemed to kick out at Jay Stein as he ran past him. For his part Stein made the most out of it and Rodgers walked.

In the 2nd half Montrose tried to play the long ball game against a tall Arbroath defence. The worst part being they were aiming the ball at Napier who just manages not to fall under the new law of not having to sit in a car in a booster seat.

Michie was taken off before he got sent off. Kerrigan came on and tried to make a difference. He at least wore his heart on his sleeve. If Henslee could read the game Kerrigan tried playing there might of been a bit of luck in some of the balls Kerrigan was winning.

In all fairness Arbroath deserved the win Montrose were again out fought for the 5th derby in the row. Robertson has been struck by the manager of the month syndrome bad and if the team doesn't buck up its ideas then we can kiss goodbye to a run in the cup.
