Bangor City have been dealt a double end of season blow, with news that goalkeeper Phil Priestley and defender Steve Hitchen are both to leave Farrar Road this summer.

Priestley, affectionately known as 'Elvis' to the Bangor faithful, has cited family and work commitments as the reason for his departure. Elvis had missed several months of this season with a troublesome knee-injury, but had recently returned to the side, which unsurprisingly coincided with an improvement in results for the Citizens.

Also on the way out is right-back Steve Hitchen, who has been one of the few City defenders to impress in a season which has seen the Blues leak 47 league goals and finish a disappointing 6th place in the Welsh Premier. Hitchen, who only joined Bangor from Macclesfield last summer, is reputedly a target for several English pyramid clubs.

Last week, Bangor Chairman Ken Jones, warned City fans that the club would have to operate on a reduced playing budget next season, unless a substantial amount of money could be raised by supporters. One such initiative is 'Bangor's Brainiest Quiz', to be held in the Fat Cat Restaurant, Bangor, on 18 May. 

Huw Pritchard explained to me "Bangor is branded as the City of Learning. Now, for a small entrance fee, businesses and organisations in the City area have the chance of proving exactly how clever they are - as well as winning a trophy, and a cheque for the charity of their choice."
