Double signing

Welsh Premier clubs have been busy recruiting new faces as the January transfer window draws to a close, as they look to strengthen their squads for the final half of the season. CARLOS EDWARDS

CITIZENS, COFIS AND QUAY ADD FRESH BLOOD
Bangor City have clinched the signings of young utility player Mike Connolly from Mallaby in the West Cheshire League, and centre-back Steve Hitchen from Macclesfield Town. Hitchen, 27, played under City manager Peter Davenport during his spell as manager at Moss Rose, and made 151 league appearances for the 3rd Division Club as well as being awarded their 'Player of the Season' 1998-99. Davenport is delighted to have been able to finally strengthen his depleted squad.

A few miles down the A487, Caernarfon Town have been busy adding to their ex-Wrexham collection, with veteran midfielder Martyn Chalk joining from high-flying Rhyl. Rhyl manager John Hulse agreed to release Chalk from his contract due to a lack of first team opportunities at Belle Vue, freeing space on the wage bill for Hulse to sign a new mystery player this weekend from an un-named Conference club. The Cofis have also added Colwyn Bay centre-back Mark Hobson to their squad, and he will go straight into the team that plays at Belle Vue today.

Meanwhile, Connah's Quay Nomads are said to be closing in on a double signing. Manager Nev Powell has issued seven days' notice on a striker who, according to www.saints-alive.co.uk is "riding high in the Welsh Premier scoring charts". A possible target could be Cefn Druids' hotshot Aden Shannon who has bagged an impressive 16 goals this season. Shannon disappeared from Plaskynaston Lane for a few games after Christmas but has now returned to the Cefn Mawr club, and they will be keen to hold onto their prize asset. The other signing is said to be a well-known figure to North Wales football fans.
