Over the years a total of 420,145 fans have witnessed Spurs and Leicester City (or Fosse) compete in the FA Cup. In 9 games they have witnessed 33 goals of which 25 of those were scored by Tottenham. We have only been beaten by them in the Cup once and what follows is the complete record of FA Cup games between the two sides.

We Start our story just before the Great War when on the 10th of January 1914, Tottenham Hotspur were drawn away to Leicester Fosse in the old first round. 9,454 supporters witnessed what must have been quite some afternoons entertainmet as it finished 5-5. Spurs Goals being scored by F.anny Walden, Billy Minter, Jimmy Cantrell and two from Bert Bliss. The replay was at White Hart Lane five days later on the 15th January. We won 2-0 that day in front of 20,252 with Walden and Bliss getting the goals. Unfortunately we were to be knocked out in the following round by Manchester City.

It was not until 1928 that we again encountered Leicester City. This was a 5th Round match at their ground (and incidentally only the third season since the big teams entered in round 3). The score on this occasion was a resounding 3-0 win for the Spurs played out in front of 47,296 supporters. Taffy O’Callaghan scoring twice and Jimmy Dimmock adding the third. Once again we were to lose at the next stage as we were walloped 6-1 by the then mighty Huddersfield Town.

Twenty years passed until 1948 when once again we were drawn against Leicester City in the 6th Round of the Cup. This time the match was at White Hart Lane and an impressive crowd of 69,049 crowded the lane to see us win emphatically by five goals to two. The scoring was opened by Freddie Cox from the Penalty spot. There was a hat-trick from John Jordan and a South og. John Jordan left us soon afterwards for Juventus. Our cup run in 1948 ended in the following round at Villa Park in theSemi Final against Blackpool.

We next played Leicester City in the 3rd round in 1957. The game at White Hart Lane was witnessed by a crowd of 56,492 and we won the game 2-0 with goals from Danny Blanchflower and George Robb. In this season we got as far as the 5th round when we were drawn away to Third Division (South) side Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic who were them managed by one Freddie Cox. The same F.Cox that scored that penalty for us against Leicester in 1948. This game against Bournemouth went down as one of the great Giant-Killings of the Cup as they won 3-1.

One year later and we were again drawn at home to Leicester in the third round. No revenge for the Foxes as we again won. This time the score was 4-0 with goals from terry Medwin, two from Bobby Smith and one from Alf Stokes. Once again we were to progress no further than the next round as Sheffield United beat us 3-0 at White Hart Lane.

It was only three years before we met Leicester City again in the Cup only this time there was no way we would be beaten in the following round because as we all know on 6th May 1961 we played them at Wembley in the final. The customary 100,000 crowd saw us win 2-0 to win ‘The Double’ and become the first team in the modern era to complete that feat. Our goals were scored by Bobby Smith and Terry Dyson.

Now on to 1974 and again we were drawn against Leicester City in the Third Round, this time at Filbert Street. 28,280 were there to witness our only defeat to the Foxes in the FA Cup. Nothing much more to say about that 1-0 loss really.

On now to our most recent FA Cup meeting and it’s back to winning ways. This time in the 1982 Semi Final. 46,606 were in Villa Park that day as Garth Crooks and a Wilson og sent us to Wembley for the second year running. 100,000 witnessed the 1-1 draw on 22nd May and five days later on the 27th saw us win the game 1-0 and lift the cup again. Glenn Hoddle scoring our goals in both games.

So there you go – 25 goals, 17 different scorers (including own goals) 7 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. Lets make that 8 wins eh Boys and a few more scorers.
