I am not given to emotional ranting. It serves very little purpose than to let off steam. It has little basis and avoids the paucity of the whole in favour of the magic of isolation. So what I am writing is about what I think we must do now for the future. In my mind and the assessment is based on the beginning of this season and the majority of the last is that we are very near to achieving success. And for me success means winning something. ANYTHING I may add. And why I am confident is the way we have responded to a dubious start to this season.

Doing well in the premiership is crucial. If we finish 5th or 6th and win a competition then for me progress would have been made. And I think we can do it, or get very very close.

But a key component is that we sell nobody who is deemed crucial today and tomorrow. That means selling Davids and one or two others is okay but selling one of our main men is NOT. We sold Carrick because we failed to address the eminent problems of the end of a contract well before the time. We lost Campbell before that and that must be the last time.

We don't need to sell anybody and we shouldn't unless we have someone better lined up. We have to be bold in that we are going to have to take a chance and give big contracts to one or two players who are on the cusp but failure to tie all the composite parts of our long term success would be as bad as our stuttering start to this season.

Tomorrow will not change the pattern of our season or our future but it may be a yardstick to where we are right now. And I believe we are further forward than last season.
