Kallis flew home after the recent one-day tournament to be with his seriously-ill father Henry, who died last week.

South Africa's management were hopeful he would return for Thursday's Test, but Kallis has chosen to spend time with his sister.

The all-rounder may return in time for the third Test at Trent Bridge which starts on August 14.

Andrew Hall, currently one of Worcestershire's overseas players and a member of South Africa's recent one-day squad, has been drafted into their Test party.
