Kallis' superb 107 on Saturday proved in vain as England romped to a six-wicket success at The AMP Oval.

But there was to be no such disappointment against Zimbabwe as the former Glamorgan and Middlesex player achieved his best one-day score for his country with an unbeaten 125 off 147 balls including a six and 14 fours.

Zimbabwe looked to have given themselves a reasonable platform to chase a target of 273 after Travis Friend and Dion Ebrahim had featured in a century stand for the second wicket.

But the innings lost all momentum once Friend had been dismissed for a powerful 82 from 93 balls with two sixes and five fours and they closed on 226 for nine.

It was South Africa's first victory in the triangular tournament and now all three nations have registered one win after the opening round of matches.

The only consolation for Zimbabwe was that they managed to earn a bonus point by reaching 217, which has put them level with England and South Africa on six points.

Kallis had a few close shaves in the early part of his innings, surviving two run-out chances and a sharp caught and bowled chance to Douglas Hondo on 21 as his first 50 occupied 89 balls.

But the 27-year-old accelerated to such good effect that his last 75 runs came off only 58 deliveries.

All-rounder Andrew Hall provided the initial impetus with 56 off 51 balls including three sixes as he dominated a stand of 91 in just 14 overs with Kallis.
