Dippenaar's century helped the tourists post 267 for seven from their 50 overs and the effect of the lights had barely kicked in by the time Sussex were bundled out for 114.

The hosts, who have won only two of 11 one-day games this season, were bowled out with more than 19 overs remaining and were never in the hunt after losing half their side for only 78.

Fast bowler Charl Langeveldt supplied the initial thrust by removing Mike Yardy and Murray Goodwin in successive balls.

Makhaya Ntini struck with the first ball of his second spell to bowl Richard Montgomerie, and Robin Martin-Jenkins miscued an attempted pull to give Langeveldt his third victim.

Dippenaar, called into the South Africa one-day squad in place of the injured Neil McKenzie, thumped seven fours and two sixes but enjoyed a big let-off on 12 when dropped by Carl Hopkinson at mid-on off spinner Mark Davis.

South Africa added 62 in their final eight overs and Dippenaar's acceleration saw him hoist Martin-Jenkins for six over mid-wicket and also put Davis back high over his head in the following over.

Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs gave the tourists a solid platform with an opening stand of 66 before falling in successive deliveries.

Dippenaar and Martin Van Jaarsveld later added 82 for the fourth wicket in 16 overs with Van Jaarsveld falling leg before to Kevin Innes after stroking 46 from 74 balls.

The South African-born Davis gained particular pleasure in bowling the Springbok skipper Shaun Pollock for 10 and, in the chase for quick runs, Andrew Hall skied Martin-Jenkins to long on in the penultimate over.
