Money, if you were smart enough, was to be placed on Kimi Raikkonen for the win at Malaysia today. After a storming drive from the back of the grid to beat his team mate to a podium in Bahrain, the paddock believed that Raikkonen could put the potential of his MP4-21 to good use in Sepang.

The luckless Finn's race was over before it had started.

The McLaren team made a gamble filling their cars up to go a good distance into the race, however this put them back into the midst of the action as the field fought for the same piece of tarmac on the first lap.

It was Red Bull Racing's Christian Klien who tagged the rear of Kimi's car, damaging the suspension on the MP4-21 and sending Raikkonen into the wall at 130mph.

Klien's RB2 also sustained front suspension damage, but after a 7 lap visit to the pits the team sent him back out on track.

An unhappy Raikkonen told ITV reporter Louise Goodman "I can't change anything now, wasn't really my fault but those things happen. Klien hit me at the back and broke my rear suspension and that was it. "
