There seems to be no end to Renault's reliability. Alonso has been on fire all year long, and barring one mistake at Canada he has been unstoppable. McLaren now seem to have the faster car, but is it in fact too little too late? Renault have not done this year what they have done in the last two: Fade off as the year goes on. This season Renault have continued to be at the top of the grid and have had blinding performances by Alonso on a regular basis. With that in mind, it now seems nearly impossible for Kimi to close the gap to Alonso for the World Drivers Championship.

The Constructors however is not over yet. With Juan Pablo Montoya coming into his own with the win at Silverstone, it now seems that both McLaren drivers are on a tear. The McLaren MP4-20 has been the class of the field for the last several races. The problem is that McLaren have had several issues that have cost us dearly. Juan's hydraulic failure cost the team a podium and much needed points. For the last two races in a row, Kimi has had to suffer a 10 spot penalty on the grid for an engine change.

With those things in mind, and the fact that Williams mysterious fall to the bottom of the grid has removed any other contender to take points away from Renault, it now seems nearly impossible for Kimi to overcome the points deficit to win the Drivers Title. With McLaren within 15 points of Renault however, the constructors is within our grasp.

The next 3 races are going to be of paramount importance for both Team McLaren and Kimi. Should we have the same issues we've had lately, Alonso can drive backwards to the World Drivers Title. If not, there is still hope for Kimi. In either case, the Constructors Title will only be won if Juan Pablo Montoya keeps his new found speed going. It can not be done without him.
