Every once in a while, somewhere on the planet, something extraordinary happens. It could be good...it could be bad; but it affects everyone.
The September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center is no exception.Frankly, we never saw it coming. I know you hear all these press reports that "we knew" and that we "did nothing". Please...isn't it the nature of the media to make a story where there really isn't one? The media sensationalism of the event has in fact ruined it for many. All the commercials, the hype, the "tributes", and all the rest tend to roll us under the carpet and we lose track of what really happened and what September 11th really means. What really happened was this: Some people, who had a hard life, believed in their leaders. They believed that the cause of all their sorrows was the United States. They believed that everyone in the United States existed for the soul purpose of destroying them. So...in an effort to fight back, they attacked what they thought was the center of America. They struck a blow that they thought would cripple us forever.
That's what happened. It really is that easy. BUT...what it did accomplish was something totally different. They expected the world to condone their actions. They were wrong.
Most people will look at the attacks today, and think,"what an ugly world we live in" and "there is no hope for the human race". But look around folks...really...look around. Everyone around the world has had their moment today. Everyone has thought of New York, the people, and the country that is the United States. I look at all the support and tribute from other nations, and it gives me the thought that we really are all the same. There's an old saying that a few bad apples can spoil the whole barrel. I don't believe that. I believe what I've seen. That people DO come together in times of trouble. That countries that have their differences DO know when to say,"that's ENOUGH!". We've all had enough.
They thought they could change us. They thought they would change our lives. They haven't. We're not afraid of them. We're not worried about them. You see...we're the United States. We're the newest kid in the playground, and we have a really big stick. We also have some very good friends as well, and they pack a pretty big stick too. We like to call our friends allies. And for the record...the Allies are 3 and 0. So...get your game face on and eat your Wheaties...because neither we nor our friends are afraid of you. In fact, we're looking for you...and we WILL find you. And when we do...you will know what the word "Terror" really means.
